Only 12% clear last edition of AIPMT Prelims

In the last throes of its existence, All India Pre-medical/Pre-dental Test (AIPMT) Prelims remained tough. Last year, only 13 per cent candidates were able to clear it. AIPMT 2012 prelims maintained almost the same level and let through only 12 per cent candidates who will now appear for the AIPMT Final exam on May 13, 2012.
2,75,742 candidate had registered for the medical entrance examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) this year. Only 2,57,960 candidate appeared for the test, however. Read more
Overall, 30,788 candidates were able to crack AIPMT Prelims. Girls had a marginal edge over boys with 15,620 girls making it to finals.
About 28,081 General Category and OBC candidates were able to crack AIPMT prelims. 2,272 SC candidates and 368 ST candidates also made it to AIPMT finals.
In the Physical Handicapped category, 61 General Category and OBC candidates were able to make it through the preliminary exams while 3 SC and 3 ST candidates will also be able to appear for the finals.
15 per cent seats in all government medical and dental colleges across India are reserved for those who clear AIPMT examinations.
From next year, only one medical entrance exam will be conducted for all the medical and dental colleges across India, called National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). Know more about NEET 2013
