After the announcement of JEE Advanced 2013 results, IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) commenced the counselling process on June 21 and it will continue till June 30, 2013.
Make sure you know exactly what to do. Here’s a step-by-step guide to understanding the JEE Advanced counseling process:
Candidates shortlisted for counselling to the IITs/ ISM Dhanbad will pass through following stages:
- Online registration
- Online choice filling
- Online seat allotment
- Online Provisional admission (Candidates must be physically present at the respective zonal IITs for certificate verification and fee payment)
Step-by-Step Procedure for Counselling:
Step 1: Online registration
Visit the JEE(Advanced)-2013 Online Counselling Portal, JCOP to get a User ID and register any time between June 24-30, 2013 (7 days).
Step 2: Online choice filling
Registered candidates need to fill the course choices on the JCOP site. Fill in sufficiently large number of choices of courses in the decreasing order of preference from the list of available seats. If a candidate does not fill enough courses as choices, he/she may not get any course allotment, especially if he/she has a low AIR. It’s allowed to change or delete earlier choices and add new choices any number of times until candidates lock their final choices. The choices locked by a candidate in JCOP are final and cannot be changed or resubmitted at a later stage. Choices should be positively locked before 5pm on June 30, 2013. Otherwise, their choices will be automatically locked after this deadline.
If for some reason access to the JCOP is denied, an online request may be submitted to the JEE helpline (jeehelpline@admin.iitd.ac.in) for gaining access. The last date for receiving such a request is 5pm, June 29, 2013.
The course allocation is done on the basis of a candidate's all India rank in JEE(Advanced)-2013 and the course preference given during Counselling.
The number of seats available for admission are less than the number of candidates considered for online seat allotment. Therefore, short listing for online Counselling does not guarantee admission.
Step 3: Online seat allotment
There are three rounds of course allocation. The JCOP site will declare the course allotment: 1st round on July 4, the second round on July 9, and the third round on July 13, 2013.
After every round, candidate should visit the JCOP portal to know about the course allotted. This allotment can change in the subsequent rounds to a choice better than the one allotted in the earlier round. This depends on the number of candidates declining the seats offered to them in the earlier round. Candidates need not visit IITs for reconfirmation of up-gradation.
Reporting date for provisional admission:
| Candidate |
Dates |
| Candidate who got seat allotment from the first round of course allocation |
July 4-8, 2013 |
| Candidate who got seat allotment for the first time in Second round of course allocation |
July 10-11, 2013 |
| Candidate who got seat allotment for the first time in Third round of course allocation |
July 14-15, 2013 |
Candidates who got a provisional seat allotment in any of the first three rounds but did not report to the Zonal IIT within the deadline will not be considered for further rounds of allotment and will lose the allotted seat, assuming they have declined admission offer. Moreover, a candidate taking admission through JEE (Advanced) 2013 will not be considered for JEE (Main) 2013 and vice versa.
Procedure for provisional admission is as follows:
