Take help of medical students if severe rise in Covid-19 cases: LG to Delhi Govt

Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal has asked the Delhi government to get the help of retired doctors and medical students in cases Delhi witnesses a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in the coming days. The Lieutenant Governor held meetings with Police Commissioner S N Srivastava, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, district magistrates and deputy commissioners of police through videoconferencing. The directive came as a move to mitigate the problem. Compared to countries such as the US, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, the number of coronavirus cases in India is still quite less. However, a steep rise in the number of Covid-19 cases could lead to problems in finding the sufficient number of healthcare professionals.

In the last 24 hours, overall 91 new coronavirus cases were reported in the national capital, taking the total number of such cases to 384. Later, the LG's office issued a statement, stating that an effective lockdown was the toughest weapon in the conclusive battle against COVID-19. According to a statement by Baijal, the health department would envisage and acquire medical necessities, and safeguard the safety and well-being of the frontline health workers.

The LG also directed the officials to guarantee a strict watch of all home quarantine cases and restraining action against violators. The police commissioner told the LG that the force was continuously registering cases and detaining people for violating the constant 21-day countrywide lockdown. Apart from this, the police commissioner informed that an all-encompassing checking of e-passes was going and action was being taken against those found misusing the passes.
