TNEA Online Choice Filling is an option provided to candidates to select and prioritise their preferred colleges and courses for admission. It is one of the stages in the process of TNEA counselling. TNEA choice filling is essential as it helps the candidates to indicate their choice of college and branch in order of preference. The process is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE). The choice filling is published after the rank list. While filling out the choices, the candidates will have to select the seats according to their preference. Students must fill in the maximum number of choices to secure the seat. The complete step-by-step process for TNEA choice filling is given below:
Step 1: TNEA 2025 Login: Candidates will be required to log in with their login ID/email ID and password. After entering the details and signing in, candidates can further move to the choice filling process.
Step 2: View Personal Details: After logging into the portal, candidates can check and verify the personal details, academic details, application number, rank, etc. After verifying, click on the 'Next' button for the initial payment.

TNEA choice filling fee amount is different for different categories. In the table given below, the fee for choice filling is provided:

Step 3: Online Payment Gateway: In this step, students will be redirected to the payment gateway. For SC and ST category candidates, the fee is INR 5000, and for other categories, it is INR 1000. There are 2 ways of making the payment- online mode or through a Demand Draft. More details about the payment are provided in the later section. Once the payment has been successful, an e-receipt will be visible. Then, click the 'next' button for the choice filling process.
Step 4: Add/Remove Choices: Candidates must carefully fill in their choice of the institute and the branch. The seat will be allotted based on availability, rank and category. The candidate must prepare the list carefully and enter the choices correctly. Choice Entry and locking of choices will be available to the candidates, the schedule for which is not yet available. Candidates can also add more choices and create a list of branches and colleges. The candidate must note that the choice list or preference list must be in order of preference. Candidates will get the option to add the choice of district, branch name, college code and college name. Candidates can save these, modify the choices until the scheduled time, and lock the choices before the said time.
Step 5: Rearrange the Choices: Here, candidates can add/remove the choice anytime within the stipulated time. Candidates will have the option to download the choice list. This list could be sent to the email ID of the candidate by clicking on ‘Send My Choice List to My Email’.
Step 6: Locking of Choices: Once the student has finalised their additions or deletions, they must make sure to lock in their choices. Begin by clicking the “Send OTP” button—an OTP will be delivered to your registered email and mobile number. Enter the code in the provided field, then click “Lock My Choice Lock” to submit your final selections. Please be aware that once your choices are locked, they cannot be altered. If you fail to lock them before the deadline, the admission authority will automatically lock your selections on your behalf.
Step 7: Release of Provisional TNEA 2025 Seat Allotment: Once the choices are locked, the TNEA system generates a tentative seat allotment, factoring in the candidate’s rank, chosen preferences, category, and reservation criteria.

TNEA choice filling dates will be published on the TNEA portal for the list of eligible candidates, after the publication of the Rank List. Based on the previous years' schedules, the tentative date for choice filling for the first and the second rounds of choice filling is July. The third round of choice filling is expected to be published in August. Students must note that the exact date of TNEA choice filling will be published on tneaonline.org by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE).

TNEA choice filling starts once the candidate has made an initial deposit. Once the payment is made, the candidate is eligible for Choice Entry. Payment can be made through the Online Payment Gateways or through a Demand Draft. It must be noted that the DD Payment should be made only through any of the TNEA Facilitation Centre (TFC), drawn in favour of The Secretary, TNEA, payable at Chennai.
