Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to conduct its Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) 2012 on August 26.

AFCAT 2012 Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to conduct its Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) 2012 on August 26. It is an entrance exam conducted for admission to Short Service Commission in Flying Brach and Permanent/Short Service Commission in Technical and Ground Duty branches.

AFCAT is conducted twice a year for induction of officers in various branches of the Indian Air Force. The test will be conducted by the Headquarters Maintenance Command (HQMC), Air Force. 

Below are programmes offered by IAF:

1. Flying branch:

No. 12 Short Service Commission (12 SSC) course

2. Technical branch:

  • No. 83 Aeronautical Engineers (83 AEC) course (Permanent Commission)
  • No.55 Short Service Commission (55 SSC) course

3. Ground duty branches:

  • No. 134 Ground Duty Officers (134 GDOC) course (Permanent Commission)
  • No. 27 Short Service Commission (27 SSC) course

Eligibility criteria

1. For flying branch:

a) Educational qualification: Should be a graduate in any discipline from a recognised university, having attained minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and having passed Math and Physics at 10+2 level

Or

B.E/B.Tech degree from a recognised university with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together

b) Age: Should be 19 to 23 years as on July 1, 2013 i.e. born between July 2, 1990 - July 1, 1994

2.  Technical branch:

a) Educational qualification:

i) Aeronautical engineers (Electronics) {AE (L)}: Candidates applying for AE (L) would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four-year degree qualification from a recognised university or cleared sections A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies.

ii) Aeronautical engineers (Mechanical) {AE (M)}: Candidates applying for AE (M) would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four-year degree qualification from a recognised university or cleared sections A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies.

3. Ground duty branches:

a) Educational qualification:

Administration and Logistics

Must possess a graduate degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all papers put together or a post graduate degree/equivalent diploma in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.

Accounts

Must possess a graduate degree with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all papers put together or a post graduate degree in commerce/CA/ICWA with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.

Education

Graduate degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.

b) Age:

For graduates

For post graduates/ LLB (Five years integrated course)

20 to 25 years

July 2, 1988 to July 1, 1993

For LLB (three years course after graduation)

July 2, 1987 to July 1, 1993

For M.Ed/ PhD /CA/ICWA

20 to 27 years

July 2, 1986 to July 1, 1993

 

Pattern of the exam:

The duration of the test will be 2 hours and will consist of multiple choice questions on:

  • Verbal ability
  • Numerical ability
  • Reasoning
  • General awareness
  • Military aptitude
