Supply chain management (SCM) deals with the management of a network of interconnected businesses involved in the ultimate provision of product and service packages required by end customers. SCM involves all movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished goods from point of origin to point of consumption (supply chain). This field has emerged as one of the most sought-after and a rewarding career in management.
Understanding supply chain is vital in today's business scenario to succeed in other functional areas like operations management, sales and marketing management, customer relationship management (CRM), physical distribution and logistics management, procurement, service-operations management, information technology management, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), financial management, etc.
If you wish to make a professional career in this field, you can pursue a PG Diploma in SCM or Diploma in SCM.
Eligibility
To purse a PGD in SCM, you must have a bachelor's degree in any streams. For Diploma programme, one must have cleared the 12th board exam.
Career Prospect:
One can start his or her career as a management trainee, analyst, or front line supervisor. The field has no standard career path, but with a broad base of business skills, knowledge of supply chain processes, and relevant internship/work experience, you will have the opportunity to begin your career with a manufacturer, retailer, carrier, third party logistics firm, or other organization. Starting salary will range between Rs. 10,000 and Rs 15000.
