Andhra Pradesh and Delhi (NCT) have been added to the list of eligible regions for the 2026-27 cohort. This takes the total to 21 states and Union Territories.
Scholarship renewal for students selected in the 2024 and 2025 cohorts will begin from September 15, 2026. Students already receiving the scholarship must upload fresh college enrolment proof to continue getting the amount.
What is Azim Premji Scholarship?
The Azim Premji Scholarship is run by the Azim Premji Foundation. Its aim is simple. Many girls stop studying after Class 12 because college costs too much. This scholarship removes that barrier.
The support is not based on marks. It is not based on caste, income or religion either. If a girl meets the basic eligibility rules, she can apply. This makes it very different from most other scholarships in India.
The scheme started in 2024-25 as a pilot. It covered over 100 districts across the country. In 2025-26 it grew to 18 states and one Union Territory. So far, 1.95 lakh girl students have received the scholarship. The Foundation has said it wants to reach 5 lakh girls every year.
Students can use the money for tuition fees. They can also use it for hostel charges, books or any other cost linked to their studies. Recipients study at large state universities such as University of Lucknow, Patna University, University of Rajasthan and Utkal University.

Azim Premji Scholarship Amount and Benefits
Selected students get INR 30,000 in a year. This amount is paid every year until the course ends.
The total depends on how long the course is. A two-year diploma brings INR 60,000 in total. A three-year degree brings INR 90,000. A five-year integrated course brings up to INR 1.5 lakh.
The money goes straight into the student's own bank account. The Foundation releases it in installments during the academic year. The account must be a savings account in a scheduled commercial bank. It must also be active, or the transfer will fail.
There is no condition on how the money is spent. It can go towards college fees. It can also cover hostel rent, travel, books or exam charges. Girls studying at institutions such as Banaras Hindu University, University of Delhi, Osmania University and Gauhati University have used it for both fees and living costs.

Commonly asked questions
Girl students who passed Class 10 and Class 12 as regular students from a government school or college in one of the 21 eligible states and Union Territories can apply. They must be in the first year of a degree or Diploma course.
Selected students receive INR 30,000 every year. The amount continues for the full length of the course. The total support goes up to INR 1.5 Lacs for a five-year programme.
No. The scholarship is not based on merit. It is also not based on caste, income or religion. Any girl student who meets the eligibility conditions can apply, regardless of her Class 12 percentage.
Yes. The state rule applies only to your school. Your college or university can be located anywhere in India, as long as it is a recognised government or credible private institution.
Colleges and Courses Covered Under the Scholarship
This is where most students get confused, so read it carefully before you worry about your college. There is no fixed list of approved colleges for this scholarship.
The state rule applies only to your school. Your college can be in any part of India. A girl who passed Class 12 from a government school in Bihar can join a college in Delhi, Pune or Bengaluru. Her scholarship stays valid.
Both government and private institutions are accepted. The private ones must be credible and bona fide. Recipients study at a wide mix of institutions. State universities like Panjab University, Bangalore University and Kurukshetra University are common choices. Central universities such as Jamia Millia Islamia and private universities across the country are also covered.
One institution is specifically excluded. Students admitted to any programme of Azim Premji University are not eligible.
Courses That Qualify for the Scholarship
Almost every regular undergraduate course is covered, as long as it meets these four conditions.
-
The course must be a recognised undergraduate degree or diploma.
-
It must run for 2 to 5 years.
-
It must be attended in regular mode.
-
It must be your first course after Class 12.
So a BA, BSc, BCom, BBA, BCA, BTech, MBBS, BEd or a polytechnic diploma all qualify. A five-year integrated law course also qualifies, which is why girls at law universities such as National Law University Delhi can apply.

Passport photograph: A 2x2 inch recent colour photo showing the front of your face. It must be from the last six months. Selfies, filters, emojis and group photos are rejected.
-
Aadhaar card: The front side only. Your name, photo, date of birth and gender must be readable. Screenshots and photocopies are rejected.
-
Bank details: The first page of your passbook showing your name, account number, IFSC and branch. If you do not have a passbook, upload a bank statement from the last one month.

-
College admission proof: A bonafide certificate or tuition fee receipt for 2026-27. It must show your name, college name, course name, year of study, issue date and the seal or signature of the college.
Scholarship Selection Process and Shortlisting
Many students think there is a test or a cutoff involved, so here is how selection actually works. There is no exam and no interview. There is also no merit list.
The Foundation checks two things. First, whether you meet every eligibility condition. Second, whether your uploaded documents are valid and readable.
Applications that clear both checks are shortlisted. Shortlisted students then get a confirmation on the portal, and the amount is transferred to their bank account.
Since selection is not based on marks, a student with average scores has the same chance as a topper. Girls at large institutions like Savitribai Phule Pune University apply on the same terms as everyone else. What matters is meeting the criteria and submitting clean documents.
Azim Premji Scholarship Status Check and Payment Update
Both status and payment updates are available in the same place, so you only need one login.
-
Go to azimpremjifoundation.org and open the scholarship page.
-
Click on the login link for registered applicants.
-
Enter your user ID and password.
-
Your application status appears on the dashboard.
-
Confirmation and disbursal updates for shortlisted applicants are also shown in the same account.
If the status has not moved for a long time, contact the Foundation on WhatsApp. Do not create a second application, as that can cause a rejection.
Azim Premji Scholarship Renewal Process
The scholarship is not a one-time payment. It continues every year, but only after renewal.
Renewal for students selected in the 2024 and 2025 cohorts will begin from September 15, 2026. It applies to students who received the scholarship earlier and are still continuing the same undergraduate course.
To renew, log in to the portal and upload fresh college enrolment proof for the current academic year. This can be a tuition fee receipt or a bonafide certificate from your college.
Two points to remember. Students who moved to a postgraduate course are not eligible for renewal. Students who did not enrol in college for the current academic year are also not eligible.
Before renewing, check that your registered mobile number is active. Visit your bank as well and confirm your account is still working.
Commonly asked questions
No, there is no age limit. However, you must still meet all the other conditions, including being in the first year of your first undergraduate degree or Diploma course.
No. The application is completely free. The Foundation has issued a public warning that it charges no fee at any stage of the process. Any demand for payment is a scam.
Common Application Mistakes That Cause Scholarship Rejection
Most rejected forms fail because of poor documents, not poor eligibility. Avoid these errors.
