SVMCM Scholarship 2026-27 Latest Updates
The SVMCM 2026-27 application form has not been released yet. The official portal svmcm.wb.gov.in has not published the Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship start date or the last date for this session. Both are marked Available Soon here for that reason.
The previous session's application process is already over. Students who missed it will have to wait for the fresh SVMCM 2026-27 notification. Once the scholarship application online link goes live, eligible students from Class 11 to Ph.D. level can register and generate their Applicant ID.
SVMCM Scholarship Overview
SVMCM is a merit-cum-means scholarship. This means two things are checked together. The first is your academic performance. The second is your family's annual income. The scheme was revamped in 2016 and now runs under a single online portal.
The scholarship money is paid through Direct Beneficiary Transfer (DBT). The amount goes straight into the student's own bank account. There is no cash payment and no cheque. Students studying in state institutions such as University of Calcutta, University of Burdwan, and West Bengal State University apply through the same portal. Coverage runs from the Higher Secondary level all the way to Ph.D. research.

These are Board toppers, Kanyashree K3 beneficiaries, M.Phil. scholars and Ph.D. scholars. Research scholars are judged on their registration date instead of a marks percentage.

Document Upload Size and Format
The portal rejects files that cross the fixed limits, so check the sizes first. The photograph must be in JPG or JPEG format, between 20KB and 50KB. The signature must also be JPG or JPEG, between 10KB and 20KB. Supporting documents must be in PDF format and must not cross 400KB.
SVMCM Scholarship Selection Process
Selection works on a merit-cum-means basis, so marks and income are weighed together. Applications are checked first by the institution and then by the concerned directorate. A merit list is prepared from the verified applications. Sanction depends on the budget available for that session.
Once your name is sanctioned, the money is released through DBT. Students from research heavy institutes such as IIT Kharagpur, IIEST Shibpur, IIM Calcutta, and the Indian Statistical Institute follow the same verification route.
SVMCM Application Status Check
You can track your form at any stage from the applicant dashboard.Log in to the portal with your Applicant ID and password. The dashboard shows the current stage of your application. It tells you whether the form is pending at the institution, at the directorate, or already approved.
Forgotten your SVMCM Applicant ID?
The portal has a recovery option on the login page. The same page has a forgot password link. Use your registered mobile number or email to reset it. Do not create a second application in place of recovering the first one.
SVMCM Scholarship Payment Status
Payment is made only by DBT, so your bank details decide whether the money lands or not. Your bank account details must match your documents. A single wrong digit in the account number or IFSC code will stop the transfer.
If a transaction fails, the portal allows a correction. Corrected bank details for a failed transaction have to be submitted by 30 June of that year. Miss this deadline and the payment for that year may lapse. Check your account statement after the sanction is announced.
SVMCM Scholarship Renewal Process
The scholarship is not sanctioned once for the entire course. It has to be renewed every year. Apply for renewal within one month of taking admission to the next class after promotion. You must clear the previous year in the first attempt. For students moving from Higher Secondary to the undergraduate level, 60% aggregate is needed. At the postgraduate level, 50% aggregate is needed.
Documents differ by directorate. Under DPI, the first renewal needs the Semester 1 and Semester 2 mark sheets. The second renewal needs the Semester 3 and Semester 4 mark sheets. Medical students renew at defined stages, namely 1st MBBS, 2nd Professional MBBS and 3rd Professional Part 1 MBBS. Students at institutions like Visva Bharati University, Vidyasagar University, and North Bengal University follow the DPI renewal pattern.

10 Things to Check Before Applying for SVMCM
Read these points once. They save a lot of trouble later.
-
Sanction is not automatic. Meeting the eligibility does not guarantee the money.
-
Do not trust any 2026-27 date until the official portal publishes it.
-
Minority community students apply through the WBMDFC portal, not through SVMCM. Confirm your route before starting.
-
The 15-character Applicant ID is specific to SVMCM. It is not a state One Time Registration number.
-
INR 8,000 per month is only for Non-NET Ph.D. scholars. It is not the general rate.
-
The bank account must be in the student's own name.
-
Income certificate must come from the competent authority mentioned on the portal.
-
The passing year window for the qualifying examination changes from cycle to cycle. Check the fresh notification before you assume you are eligible.
-
Keep your photograph, signature and PDF files within the size limits before you start uploading.
-
Renewal is a separate application every year. It is not carried forward on its own.
