The programme gives students a thorough knowledge and understanding of Port and Terminal Management. It also develops relevant communication skills related to the sector. BBA in Ports & Terminal Management is a three-year programme focused on the preparing students for managerial roles in this sector. The programme will make the student understand the role of ports in international trade and transport and how ports can benefit or detract from the economic development of countries and their sea-borne trade, understand the effect of globalization on port choice and how changes in logistics and distribution patterns influence the development or decline of ports, understand the geographic reasons for port location and the extent to which this may depend on the nature of their hinterland and natural resources. The different types of ports and access to ports (natural, manmade, river, estuary) and the diversity of specialist port operations, the enhanced role of ports in a through transport context hub ports, feeder/transhipment ports, intermodal interfaces will also be covered. The curriculum will also discuss the role of national, regional local government in port provision, the different forms of the ownership structure of ports and of port services; public/private, landlord only, full or part service provider, terminal facilities within ports and the use of Free Port/Free Trade Zones as an economics tool.
