Vignana Jyothi was registered during the year 1991 under the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Public Societies Registration Act.
The objective was to promote social, cultural, educational, scientific and research activities among men and women. Vignana Jyothi Institute of Management offers a two-year PGDM/ PGDM (General) programme to students in five specialisations. The total tuition fee is INR 8 lakh. Candidates seeking admission must select two out of the six specialisations offered by the institute during admission. Out of the various specialisations the institute offers, applicants for admission are required to choose two. Additionally, candidates must pass one of the following exams: MAT, XAT, CAT, CMAT, ATMA, and others. This is followed by a PI that is held on campus or at a site designated by the institute.

The percentage of students placed during the academic year 2024-25 was 76%. It must be noted that the placements 2025 are ongoing. Looking at the past three years statistics, a declining trend in the VJIM placement percentage. The placement rate for the 2024 batch was 81% and in 2023 it stood at 84%
