4 young Indian-origin scientists awarded PECASE

Four Indian-origin American scientists were honoured with the prestigious Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). These four scientists out of the 96 researchers named by US President Barack Obama are:

National Science Foundation:

  • Sridevi Vedula Sarma - Johns Hopkins University
  • Parag A.Pathak - Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Department of Health and Human Services

  • Pawan Sinha - Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Biju Parekkadan - Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School

Sridevi Vedula Sarma is assistant professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Institute for Computational Medicine at theΒ John Hopkins University, whereas Parag A Pathak is from Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyΒ (MIT). (Read more)

Pawan Sinha is an associate professor of computational and visual neuroscience in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences atΒ MIT. He received his undergraduate degree in computer science from the IIT-New Delhi and his master’s and doctoral degrees from MIT. On the other hand, Biju Parekkadan is associated withΒ Massachusetts General HospitalΒ andΒ Harvard Medical School.

Established by President Bill Clinton in 1996, PECASE is the highest honor given by the US governmentΒ to science and engineering professionals in early stages of their independent research careers. (Read more)
