50 technical colleges under UPTU scanner
Failing to meet the minimum academic standards, as many as 50 colleges running engineering, management and pharmacy courses are now under the Uttar Pradesh Technical University's (UPTU) scanner. UPTU has already begun the de-affiliation process against these colleges, after the state level affiliation committee figured out that the institutions have continuously showed poor performance in the past three years.
Reasons for de-affiliation of the colleges:
- Results: The qualifying result of the first-year students of these institutions is below 20%.
- Admission: In the past three years, only 10-15% seats were filled through State Entrance Examination (SEE). Management quota helped filled up few seats in these colleges. Even then, more than 50% of the total seats remained vacant in the past three years.
- Placements: Less than 10% students were placed in the previous years
- Poor quality of students and faculty: Shortage of students led to deterioration in facilities provided by these colleges. The institutions are now struggling with poor resources and sub-standard quality of education.
According to information, out of 50 institutions, 25 are affiliated to Gautam Buddh Technical University while remaining 25 are recognised by Noida-based Mahamaya Technical University (MTU). While in Lucknow, the notice has been issued to the following colleges:
- Lucknow Institute of Technology (LIT)
- Aryakul College of Pharmacy and Research
- Bhalchandra Institute of Education and Management
Besides these, Colleges in Jaunpur, Hardoi, Allahabad, Kaushambi, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Kanpur, Meerut, Aligarh and Agra are also facing the music.
