IIT-B set to open New York campus

IITs always top the charts
Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay is looking westward for a new campus. The premiere engineering college has decided to set up a campus in New York. It is going to establish a Centre for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) in New York in collaboration with five US institutes. This association aims at focusing on research activities, in return, such activities will way out the urgent needs of urban planning by offering masters and executive courses, and PhD opportunities.
Last year, IIT-B announced that it will set up its first educational campus in the country that will function through Unique Identification Numbers (UID). Such process was created to form a cashless environment. (Read full story)
Ranked second by the New York City Economic Development Corporation and it will begin its operations from Brooklyn Polytechnic at 370 J street. The first rank was received by Cornel/Technion consortium and it will set up its entire campus in New York.
According to DNA India, IIT-B director Prof Devang Khakhar highlighted the importance of setting up this center. It will come up with new avenues to deal with the challenges of megacities. As per IIT B, Urban town planning is a complex topic to deal with. It is also planning to get into humanities and management fields and some distance learning programmes as well.
