The research scenario in India has a long way to go. In IIT itself, more funds are required for carrying out research processes. Though the institute says that they receive reasonable funding but since 2007-08 the amount required has increased by 30-35 per cent.

According to Anup K Ghosh, professor and chairman of the open house committee, IIT being one of the top institutes in the world lacks the world-class research facilities in US, Europe and China. The committee basically looks after the research work undertaken by students and faculty. But only fund increase will not put an end to this problem. More funds mean more research work which will automatically vouch for more manpower. Since everything goes by the policy it is necessary to get that initial jump for creating facilities through increased funds. The institute received a total fund of Rs.127 crore for research work during 2011-2012. Within 2011-2012 alone, 300 research cost-effective and commercially-viable projects were registered by the students and faculty. The recent hydrogen-fuelled three-wheeler was showcased in the Auto Expo.

The Indian research scenario is not at its best but to make it happen structural planning along with proper fund allocation is required. Research is an evident part of a nation it not only ensures growth but it is an indication of a nation's development. Read More...
