IT's handsome packages attract engg students
Information Technology (IT) companies were known to offer an average annual pay package of around Rs 3 lakh until 2008-09. This recession period had the branch experiencing a slowdown when electronics and communication climbed up the engineering popularity chart, as per media reports.
Lucrative pay packages by multi-national companies along with encouraging annual placement records by Forbes 500 companies like Infosys and Wipro is making Information Technology (IT) branch of engineering more and more attractive to aspirants. Rajasthan Technical University is a case in point where 154 of its affiliated engineering colleges offer 12,500 seats for this branch against a total of 54,000 seats. The branch is prominently placed at around 17 private universities in Jaipur.
Rajasthan's new engineering colleges and universities have positioned themselves to meet the demand for IT branch of engineering which is popular among aspirants. Local job opportunities in the IT sector have got a boost with the establishment of IT units in special economic zones (SEZs) like Mahindra World and Japenese hub in Neemrana, reported Times of India. From traditional favourites such as electrical, mechanical, civil or chemical engineering to IT, electronics, telecommunication, instrumentation etc there is an entire range of engineering disciplines one can opt for. But choosing a suitable branch may not always be easy for every engineering aspirant. Though, the choice is often driven by salary package and better placements.
