JEE application process starts Nov 1
Application forms for the new Joint Entrance Exam (Main), 2013 which will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), will only be available online starting November 1. The exam will be replacing the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). Apart from being the first stage exam for entry into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the JEE (Main) will be conducted for entry to National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and centrally-funded engineering colleges.
An estimated 10 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the exam next year. Students filling up the online forms can take assistance from ‘facilitation centres' organised by CBSE. The Board has announced a list of 43 centres across the country and more centres are likely to be added in the coming weeks.
The Board has also released a framework of additional details about the exam last week in a fresh document. According to the new document, candidates can avail services of these centres free of cost. The offline JEE (Main) will be held on April 7, 2013; however, dates for the online test are yet to be announced.
According to the newly released document, a candidate will be allowed three consecutive attempts for the JEE (Main). Blind candidates will be allowed the help of writers and an hour of extra time to write the paper. The format of the exam will be objective type with negative marking for wrong answers. Aspirants can check the syllabus details on its website.
The top 1.5 lakh candidates who crack the JEE (Main) will be eligible for appearing in JEE (Advanced), which will be conducted by the IITs. Those who wish to improve their performance in the board exam, following the announcement of the new format, will have to appear again for exams in all the subjects.
