Karnataka to promote entrepreneurship
In an effort to promote and nurture entrepreneurship and harvest new jobs for the youth, Karnataka government has taken the initiative to shortlist 183 engineering colleges, where it will create a favourable ecosystem for entrepreneurs. The ecosystem will especially promote IT, IT-enabled services and Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sectors.
Engineering students from the chosen colleges can submit their ideas to impressIT – a platform for young entrepreneurs from engineering backgrounds. The Top 10 entries will be showcased at the BangaloreIT.biz event, which will be organized by the government from October 17 to 19, 2012. Read more
At the event, student winners will also be placed in prominent IT companies like Infosys and SAP and mentored by the likes of Infosys executive co-chairman S Gopalakrishnan, and V.R. Ferose, managing director of SAP Labs. Ideas with good business potential may also get funded by the business giants.
The goal of the event is to give boost to new product companies in India and create more jobs for the youth in the state as well as outside the state in the near future.
At present, Bangalore is home to about six lakh IT professionals - about one-tenth of the total number of IT professionals in India.
Recently, it has been noticed that students from prestigious colleges like IITs, IIMs, and NITs are using internships to gain a foothold in the entrepreneurial sector, as well as get exposure to overall operations of a company. Startups are also known to pay these interns reasonably well. Know more
