New UGC rule welcomes top 400 world universities to set up campus in India
With the authorities giving a green signal to Foreign Educational Institutions (FEIs), the UGC has finally prepared a set of rules that will let the top 400 institutes of the world set up campuses in India. The rules will ensure only the best FEIs are permitted to establish campuses, offering quality education in the country. This information was recently presented by Human Resources Development Minister Dr MM Pallam Raju.
“Indian students would also be benefited with the entry and operation of FEP through access to globally renowned and quality academic institutions in Indian higher education sector at relatively lower costs, Raju said in Lok Sabha in a written reply,” informed the Economic Times.
According to experts, promoting high quality foreign education in India will not only increase the student’s interest but also check the migration of good students to other countries. Both the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion and the Department of Economic Affairs have supported the proposal, said Raju.
Earlier, UGC Guidelines for Academic Collaborations between Indian and Foreign Institutes were issued to protect students’ interests. Read more about it here.
