Obama-Singh Award goes to 3 Tamil Nadu institutes
The Obama-Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative Award for 2013 has chosen three higher education institutions in Tamil Nadu as its awardees for project grants. The initiative which was announced by the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and US President Barack Obama in 2009 emphazises on two-way student mobility, research collaborations, faculty development, establishment of community colleges, collaborations for cyber system and technology enabled learning like the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
The institute partnerships and the projects selected for the grant are listed below:

Each project will receive an award of approximately $250,000 that can be used over three years to bring in educational reforms, foster economic growth, generate shared knowledge to address global challenges, and develop junior faculty at Indian and American institutions of higher learning. For the same, each government pledged $5 million for a total of $10 million.
