Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducting Joint Entrance Exam Main 2015 (JEE Main 2015) both as an offline as well as an online test. JEE Main offline exam will be held on April 4, 2015 and the online test will be conducted on April 10 and April 11, 2015.
CBSE conducts two exams, that is, JEE Main Paper-1 and JEE Main Paper-2. Candidates are informed that Paper -1 is conducted for BE/BTech admissions whereas Paper-2 is held for BArch and BPlanning admissions.
JEE Main 2015 official website informs that the marks scored by aspirants in JEE Main 2015 will be declared on April 27, 2015. This score will comprise of the marks actually obtained by candidates in Paper-1 of JEE Main 2015. Apart from this, JEE Main 2015 score would also comprise of thecandidateās status in the exam, that is, it will mention whether the aspirant has qualified for JEE Advanced 2015 or not.
The JEE Main 2015 All India Ranks (AIRs) will be declared on July 7, 2015. These JEE Main rank cards will contain the name as well as roll numbers of shortlisted candidates for admissions into BTech, BPlanning as well as BArch programmes offered at NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, SFIs and other institutes.
The official website for JEE Main 2015 informs; āOnly the All India Rank (AIR) is used for admissions through Central Seat Allocation Board to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs/SFIs/Others, while other ranks are for information purposesā.
However, JEE Main ranks are not decided only on the basis of a candidateās score. Read on to find out how scores as well as ranks for JEE Main 2015 are actually calculated.
Also, even before the official JEE website declares the ranks, several JEE Main rank predictors surface which help aspirants predict ranks for their JEE Main exam. To use these rank predictors, aspirants first need to go through JEE Main 2015 answer keys and determine their score in the exam, following this, aspirants can fill in information in the JEE main 2015 rank predictor to determine which rank they can expect to achieve in this engineering entrance exam.
How to calculate JEE Main 2015 scores
JEE Main 2015 comprises of four question paper sets. Each question paper set of JEE Main will have 90 questions each.
Test papers of JEE Main will consist of questions from subjects such as Physics, Chemistry as well as Mathematics. Each question paper will be divided into three sections and each section will have questions from only one subject.
JEE Main 2015 exam pattern is such that the weightage of marks that can be scored across each section is the same. Thus, all the questions asked in the JEE Main paper will have equal weightage.
Further, aspirants are informed that for every question answered correctly they will be awarded four marks. But if any question is attempted wrongly by the candidate then one mark will be deducted from their total score. However, if an aspirant does not attempt a question (that is, leaves the response sheet blank for that particular question) then no marks will be deducted from the candidateās total score.
Thus, the JEE Main 2015 score of a candidate will be formulated by adding up marks obtained by the aspirant for every correct answer followed by deducting marks for every wrong option selected by the candidate.
How to calculate JEE Main 2015 ranks
JEE Main 2015 ranks will not be declared only on the basis of marks scored by the candidate in JEE Main exam alone. The ranks for JEE Main 2015 will be formulated by calculating the candidateās score in the exam followed by determining the aspirantās normalised score in his Class XII or equivalent qualifying examination.
Here, a point to note is that when ranks for JEE Main 2015 are calculated then 60% weightage is given to JEE Main 2015 scores and the rest 40% weightage is given to normalized marks scored by an aspirant in his Class XII or equivalent qualifying exam.
But, sometimes there comes a scenario/case wherein two or more students secure the same marks in JEE Main 2015.
In such a case, rank of candidate for BE/BTech admissions in engineering colleges other IITs are decided on the below mentioned criteria:
- JEE Main 2015 Mathematics marks: Aspirant who has managed to score higher marks in maths section of JEE Main 2015 will be given a better rank.
- JEE Main 2015 Physics marks:Aspirant who has managed to score higher marks in physics section of JEE Main 2015 will be given a better rank.
- Total normalised marks in qualifying exam: Aspirant who has managed to score higher normalisedmarks in qualifying exam will be considered to have abetter rank.
- Ratio of positive & negative marks:Aspirant who has higher āabsolute value of the ratioā will be said to have a better rank.
However, after taking all these tie-breaking criterions in consideration still two or more candidates seem to have the same score then their ranks will be considered to be same.
