Tamil Nadu Government Planning To Open 15 New Polytechnics
Tamil Nadu government is planning to open at least15 new polytechnics in the state this year. Many national institutions in the city as well as the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology are offering specialized academic programs, which maintain the city's position as an automobile hub. Mr. S. Annadurai, Additional Director (Polytechnic), Directorate of Technical Education said,"It would also strengthen Chennai's position as a hub for automobile industry.

E-Learning Portal For DU Students
Delhi University has come up with an e-learning portal. In this portal, you can find the study material of 12 courses which includes physics, chemistry, life sciences, history, commerce, mathematics, political science, education, computer science, Sanskrit, Hindi and English. The university's vice-chancellor, Mr. Deepak Pental said, "This initiative will not just help students but also teachers since the basics of a subject can be understood through the e-learning material in the portal whereas the classroom lectures can focus on more in-depth study." The study material is available in two languages - English and Hindi, so it will prove to be helpful for all.

UGC Approves New Guidelines For Deemed-to-be University
The University Grants Commission (UGC) approved the new guidelines for Institutions Deemed-to-be- University. As per the new UGC guidelines, the Chancellor of the deemed university should be an eminent educationist or a distinguished public figure other than the President of the sponsoring society or his/her relative. The new guidelines were issued with a view that such institutes work as family businesses. While the position of pro-chancellors has been abolished, these institutions will not be granted the deemed university status under the fresh guidelines. The proposed deemed-to-be university will have to be registered either as a non-profit society under the Societies Registration Act or as a non-profit trust under the Public Trust Act.

Most Awaited AIEEE Result Declared
This year, more than 10 lakh students appeared for AIEEE. The examination was held on 25th April, 2010 at 1,623 centers in 86 different cities across India and abroad. The result was declared on 29th of May, 2010. Students who have cleared the exam are eligible for admission in National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology, Delhi Technological University, deemed universities and a few institutes in states like Uttarakhand and Haryana.
