CBSE introduces major changes in subjects at Class 9 & Class 11 level

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made major changes in the subjects offered to students of Class 9 and Class 11 for the academic session 2018-2019. Courses such as English Communicative (code 101), Information and Communication Technology (code 166), e-Publishing (code 354) and e-Office (code 454) have been discontinued for Class 9. On the other hand, Dance – Mohiniyattam (code 062), Multimedia and Web Technology (code 067) and English Elective CBSE (code 101) have been discontinued at the Class 11 level.

However, candidates who are currently pursuing these courses in their Class 9 and Class 11 will be able to continue studying them in Class 10 as well as Class 12 for the academic session 2018-19.

Apart from this, the board has also merged few similar vocational electives in Class 11, which are, Agriculture (code 068), Fashion Studies (code 053) and Mass Media Studies (code 072).

Further, the subject 'Sanskrit Communicative' is renamed to 'Sanskrit' and 'Foundations of Information Technology' has been renamed to 'Computer Applications'.

For the current session, Computer students have two courses – Computer Science (Old) and Computer Science (New). Thus, schools have the option to offer both the courses. But from the 2019-2020 academic session, all schools will have to offer Computer Science (New) subject only and so they need to ensure that their teachers receive the necessary training.
