Art is the most beautiful form of expression known to mankind. Amidst various fascinating fine arts disciplines, sculpturing has established its unique place. Sculptures are often creative outbursts of the artist inspired by the internal or external environment. They carve magnificent shapes in stone, concrete or any other material using tools such as chisels, gouges etc. They also create wax or clay models using their fingers as tools. For pursuing Sculpture as a career, a candidate must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Originality of ideas
  • Lots of patience

A candidate wanting to pursue a career in Sculpture, must be willing to go through the grind. An artist is known by his/her reputation, and an ambitious student has to be prepared for the long haul to build a name in the industry. Building good contacts in advertising business and the community of art dealers is important to find steady flow of work. But, of course, one must be confident of one's talent to succeed despite hurdles. Determination and perseverance are important in this industry.

As a sculptor, a candidate can design themes for world-wide events, seasons, specific promotions etc. Apart from being an artist, one can also choose to be an art critic writing features and articles for newspapers and magazines. Sculptors can also make money through freelancing. But remember, only a small number of artists can make a living by sculpting alone. So you might have to find an alternative source of income.

Remuneration:

It's a profession with a no-income bar. Work exhibits can earn a beginner anything between Rs 5,000 - 9,000 for his/her individual creations. With name and experience, the money can rise to 10,000 - 30,000 bracket. After gaining recognition an individual art piece could cost up to Rs 2 Lakh or more.
