Today the technology is moving very fast. In development there a big fight between Microsoft and SUN micro system. Both are developing their best products (Frameworks) to meet the Industry requirements. But as we al know that "need is the cause invention", it never stops. For the same Microsoft developed the framework which got the highest popularity in a very short span of time. Insparc (www.insparc.us ) development team works and explains it as well

The Microsoft .NET Framework is a software framework compatible to Microsoft Windows operating systems only. It includes a large library of coded solutions to common programming problems and a virtual machine that handles the execution of programs written specifically for the framework.

The framework's Base Class Library provides a large range of features including user interface, data and data access, database connectivity, cryptography, web application development, numeric algorithms, and network communications. The class library is used by programmers, who combine it with their own code to produce applications.

Programs written for the .NET Framework execute in a software environment that manages the program's runtime requirements. Also part of the .NET Framework, this runtime environment is known as the Common Language Runtime (CLR). The CLR provides the appearance of an application virtual machine so that programmers need not consider the capabilities of the specific CPU that will execute the program. The CLR also provides other important services such as security, memory management, and exception handling. The class library and the CLR together constitute the .NET Framework.

Microsoft's research is launching new versions with advanced features at a very fast pace. No doubt Today Programmers are crazy about this framework
Version 3.0 of the .NET Framework is included with Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista. The current stable version of the framework, which is 3.5, can also be installed on Windows XP and the Windows Server 2003 family of operating systems.

Frameworks launched
VS 2003 - Version 1.1 , VS 2005 - Version 2.0 , VS 2008 - Version 3.0 / 3.5 ,
VS 2010 - supposed to be launched

The .Net Framework family also includes two versions for mobile or embedded device use. A reduced version of the framework, the .NET Compact Framework, is available on Windows CE platforms, including Windows Mobile devices such as smart phones. Additionally, the .Net Micro Framework is targeted at severely resource constrained devices.

How to Learn
This framework is very easy to learn. If you are fresher, then the books like complete reference may be uncomfortable for you because the codes there are given in HTML form. If you want to learn Microsoft .Net through book, you can have a book "C# & ASP.Net" written by Mr. N.C.Gupta. This book is only in the market which contains programming in C# with ASP.Net. This book has been written for students who want to look everything same as on screen while programming. All the examples in this book have been given in GUI format. This Book contains programming in C#, ADO.Net, ASP.Net, Advance ASP.Net, AJAX interview questionnaire, etc
