HC has directed DU to convert 50 vacant OBC seats into General
The Delhi High Court has passed an order to Delhi University to convert the 50 vacant OBC seats in the LLB course in to General category and to give admissions to students who are in the waiting list. Courts have consistently passed various directions under which it has been made clear that all institutions should fill their vacant seats so as to stop the wastage of seats. Such seats should be provided to students who struggle hard to get admissions in coveted universities like DU.
Justice Gambhir said that DU should also hold a counseling session for students after notifying them about the conversion of 50 OBC seats into general ones. Students will be notified through notice board and it will also be published on the website. 7 days time will be provided to students so that they would be able to participate in the counseling session.
Court objected on the university's argument that such admissions at this stage will make students suffer as the session has already begun. Court said that Faculty of Law shall conduct special classes for such students so that they can cover up their course. It has also been added that the attendance of such students should also be evaluated from the date of their admission and not from the date when the current academic session begun.
This order of court came as an appeal from cluster of students looking for direction to DU to convert the vacant OBC seats into General category as many students have been waiting to get admission in the LLB course.
