Film and Television Institute of India: An Overview

Film and Television Institute of Pune came into existence in 1960 on erstwhile Prabhat Studio premises at Pune. Thereafter, the institute emerged as a full-fledged centre for Cinema, the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and still rules as the centre for film studies. An autonomous body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India, FTII policies are determined by a Governing Council.

Through its quality education and a professional environment, Film and Television Institute has earned a special rapport not only in India but also in Asia and Europe.

FTII Students Win 58th National Film Awards

A number of students from FTI have made not only landmark movies, but also bagged various prestigious awards. At the recently announced 58th National Film Awards in Delhi, Arunima Sharma won award for best direction, for her film 'Shyam Raat Seher'. The award includes Swarna Kamal (golden lotus) and a cash prize of Rs 1.50 lakh. The film also won best cinematography award, which was given to cameraman Murli G. A Rajat Kamal.

'Kal 15 August Dukan Band Rahegi', is another in the award winning list, directed by Pratik Vats. This film bagged best short fiction award, and comprises a Rajat Kamal and cash prize of Rs 50,000, both to the producer and the director. In total the students of FTI won five awards at the prestigious 58th National Film awards.
