Finally, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given the nod for the closure of such institutes. Soon, seven institutes will go out of sight, three of them are based in Maharashtra; two management colleges and one engineering college. Certainly, this update will give relief to some management and engineering colleges.

AICTE chairman S S Mantha revealed to Indian Express that as of now four management colleges will have to shut down their shops, of which one is pharmacy and two are engineering institutes. These are based in Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. (Know more)

Low admission rates and poor campus placements have led to this situation. About 138 colleges will shut off their operations. The list includes 15 engineering, 65 management and 29 MCA institutes. Some of them are located in states like Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. For example, Last year in Maharashtra, when the colleges got over with their admission process, it has been reported that 32, 000 engineering seats and 16, 000 management seats went unfilled. Likewise, in 2010 22, 000 engineering seats went vacant.

With the growing demands of expertise in the country, it's imperative to maintain the level of education and training in an institute. Such institutes, with short cut methodologies, will find it increasingly tough to stay in the market. Caution is expected from the students also. They should be careful not to fall in the trap of these institutes and research well before they arrive at the right choice.
