All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced its first online Common Management Admissions Test (CMAT) to select students for AICTE approved management institutes. The first ever CMAT is scheduled to be held in February 2012. More than two months left but the hectic work has already begun at the AICTE headquarters in New Delhi as well as at its branch offices in various states.

Pre-testing of the CMAT has already begun and the final format of the exam could be sealed anytime before 31st December, 2011. Various investigation agencies are inspecting the technical validity and paper pattern of the exam. The real pattern of the paper is yet not revealed but it would be similar to the CAT.

Unlike in the CAT, CMAT applicants will be spared the trouble of standing in long queues outside banks for buying vouchers. Everything has been checked rigorously and it has been made sure that CMAT does not suffer from technical glitches.

In case of CMAT, everything will be online and candidates will not have to register online but they will also have to pay the fees online within the given time frame. The price of taking the CMAT will also be considerably lower than that of the CAT, though the exact figure has not yet been decided. A core committee of six people chosen by the Executive Council of the AICTE is currently working on chalking out a list of test centers where the CMAT would be held.
