AIEEE to go the CAT way
The Number of aspirants appearing for entrance examinations in various public as well as private institutes is increasing at a profound rate. This means that facilities for so many students to sit and give the exam also have to increase manifold.
Thus to avoid logistical problems and following the trend set by Common Admission Test (CAT), All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is going online from 2011.
However, whether entrance for Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) which comes under AIEEE, will be conducted online is still under discussion.
The idea behind conducting AIEEE is multi-pronged. Firstly, it is to avoid the lakhs of students going and giving the exam in person; secondly, it will surely save a lot of paper which is used for printing the question papers, hall tickets, answer sheets and other things and so it will beneficial for the environment too; thirdly with the internet boom it is only the sensible thing to do to switch to the internet for such exams which would save a lot of time and energy too.
Like CAT, CBSE has decided to outsource the conduct of the online test to an expert foreign agency for a smooth and glitch-free conduct of the national level online test. The board has invited proposal by various agencies, which have 
As the part of education reforms, it has been decided to merge the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) with the AIEEE from 2011. The AIPMT is conducted by the CBSE every year for to fill up 15 percent of the seats in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS) courses in government medical and dental colleges against the all-India quota.
