Amongst new IIMs, Trichy first to bag foreign placement

Rated best among the new IIMs by MHRD and other external agencies, Indian Institute of Management - Trichy (IIM-T) is known for its quality faculty members that hail from IITs, IIMs, and top-notch institutions all over the world. It has good infrastructure and an ultra-modern library that has been established at a cost of Rs 75 lakhs.

Now, the summer placements at IIM Trichy have added another feather to its cap! It is the first of the new IIMs to bag an international summer placement for a student in the 2011-2013 batch. The student has been offered a placement at the Singapore centre of a U.S. based company. There was a likelihood of three more international placements for summer internships but they did not materialize.

Forty companies recruited 83 students at IIM Trichy for summer internships in various domains. The companies included FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) majors, finance majors like Citibank, HSBC, ING Vysya, ICICI, and Yes Bank, and other well-known companies that recruited students for marketing roles such as P&G International, Pfizer, Amul, and Berger Paints.

In operations, HR, strategy, and consulting areas, students at IIM Trichy bagged placements at the likes of Cognizant Business Consulting, Mahindra & Mahindra GMC, IBM Research, Wipro, Tata Chemicals, and Gammon India.

On an average, the stipend offered for internships of eight to nine weeks was Rs 53,000 while the highest domestic offer was for Rs 1.2 lakh. The students were also offered other benefits, such as travel and accommodation.

The average stipend offered for the internship period of eight to nine weeks from April-March to May was Rs.53,000, excluding travel, accommodation and other benefits. The highest domestic offer was Rs.1.2 lakh.

The best thing about IIM Trichy placements was that summer internships catered to the career aspirations and aptitude of students and options were available for unique interests like renewable energy, mobile healthcare and online marketing too.
