Are students shying away from counseling?

The state entrance counseling turned out to be rather disappointing on the 20% seats reserved for engineering and management students. During the counseling, for admission in colleges affiliated to state technical university more than 50 % of the AIEEE qualified candidates were absent while less than 1% CMAT qualified candidates have applied for it.

The 20% seat comprises of 26,000 engineering seats and 6,600 management seats. Out of which 10,993 engineering candidates applied while only 53 management candidates applied for the state counseling. Less than 50% engineering students turned up, out of which 4,513 students reserved their seats. The rest i.e.1,100 did not get the stream/institute of their choice. The most favourable choice of college was JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida and Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College, Ghaziabad among others. The most sought after streams were electronics and computer science.

In the management sector, out of 53 candidates only 14 candidates got their seats reserved. In short, not more than 0.5% students are keen to study MBA in state colleges.

For the remaining 6,400 seats in the management institutes and 21,000 seats in the engineering institutes, the SEE counseling will start on 14th July 2012. SEE coordinator, V K Singh said that the response to the engineering application this year was better than the previous year. There was a fight for seats in top engineering colleges, for which if they couldn't make it they left.
