Best in the Business
Determination, dedication and discipline β this is what they aim for at the Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, University of Delhi, located in the extreme east in Jhilmil Colony, Vivek Vihar. This DU college was the first to start the undergraduate
management programme. Many of the students have been bagging attractive pay packages ranging between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh per annum.
Famous for: High pay packages, brilliant faculty, rigorous entrance test for both general and quota students, unlike other DU colleges.Β Programmes: BBS, Bachelor of financial and investment analysis (BIFA), BSc (Hons), computer science, post-graduate diploma in computer application.
Extracurricular activities: βClassroom studies gives them the requisite confidence but activities outside classroom teach them to communicate and develop interpersonal skills, which take them further,β says principal Poonam Verma. βThe list is longβ, adds Verma andΒ opportunities are abundant for students to pursue interests inΒ music, dance, theatre, writing, sports, debating, quizzing, photography, street plays, etc. Events and societies at this college include:
Convergence: The corporate seminar is an endeavour to keep the students in sync with the latest trends in the corporate world.
Crescendo: The college fest.
Verve: The street play society, which, apart from directing plays, also works for physically challenged students. Members also hold communication classes for government school students.
Placements: A big jump in the numbers of companies participating in campus selection and the value of the job offers help the CBS maintain its record of 100 per cent placement. March 2008 saw 84 industry leaders visiting the campus.
βBain and Co recruited three students with a package of Rs 9.7 lakh per annum. The average package was Rs 5 lakh per annum,β says Sonia Sareen, placement coordinator.
Infrastructure
The college has a well-equipped audiovisual hall and conference room with modern teaching aids such as LCD projector, overhead projector, personal address and conference system. The A/V room is used for presentations and guest lectures. Each classroom is equipped with its own overhead projector.
Library: The college library is fully computerised and air-conditioned with 15,000 books and subscriptions to 48 national and 
Computer laboratories: The college has three computer laboratories, one for the BBS students, one for the BSc (Hons) computer science students and one for the PGDCA and BIFA students.
Audiovisual room: The room is equipped with a high-quality wall mounted projector and has a seating capacity of 150.
