CAT 2013: 3335 seats between 13 IIMs
The fate of 173,738 candidates will be declared on January 14, 2014. On this day, Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will release the CAT 2013 results. Held over a window of 20 days (from October 16 to November 11), cracking Common Aptitude Test (CAT) to get admission to an MBA college of choice is the dream of every management aspirant. If Shiksha.com calculations are correct, as many as 17,000 candidates stand a chance to receive a call from the 13 IIMs. The number 17,000 is 10% of total test takers. This year, the total number of seats in all the 13 IIMs combined is 3335.
Speaking about current year’s trend, Professor Rohit Kapoor, CAT 2013 Convenor, says, “While overall registration has declined, the ratio of female candidates over two years has continued to steadily increase, to 29 per cent. The rise of candidates with two or more years of work experience, registering for CAT, has risen to 16 per cent over the same span, while candidates with little to no work experience have declined to 66 per cent. It is understandable, in our current economy that many working professionals are choosing to acquire greater work experience before diverting attention from their present employment to undertake an MBA. ”
Once the results are out, test-takers Prometric will release a list of toppers. Last year, names of eight candidates were officially released. Even coaching centres release a list of their toppers. Let us wait and watch, how CAT 2014 unfolds.
