IIT-JEE Merit List Shows A Zoom In Cut-off Marks
This year the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) result showed a slight increase in success rate across India. The entry requirement this year goes a bit high as every category received marginally high passing ratio. Anil Kumar, IIT-Bombay JEE chairman, said, βThe cut-offs for reserved category candidates (scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and candidates with physical disabilities) have gone up by a nominal 2%. The qualifying mark for SC/ST/PD candidates had been 18% (89/480) last year. This time, it is nearly 20% (95/480)β.

London School of Economics Joins Tata International Social Entrepreneurship Scheme
The London School of Economics has joined hands with Tata International Social Entrepreneurship Scheme (ISES) this year to enable its students be part of the two-month distinctive corporate sustainability internship programme. The two-year old Tata ISES, which has affiliations with the University of California, Berkeley, USA, and the University of Cambridge, UK, will have 13 scholars for the summer internship this year. Out of these thirteen scholars, three are from London School of Economics, while six are from the University of Cambridge and four are from the University of California.

LLB Graduates Must Clear Entrance Test To Enter the Bar In Karnataka
LLB graduates will now have to clear an examination conducted by the Bar Council of India (BCI) to be eligible for enrolling themselves as advocates. Last week, the Karnataka State Bar Council of India received a communication from BCI to implement this new rule with immediate effect. According to BCI announcement, the qualifying examination for aspiring Law graduates is scheduled to be held on December 5, 2010, and the result for the same is expected to be declared in January 2011. So, the fresh graduates will have to wait for at least another few months before they step out as advocates.

Mumbai Colleges Offering New Course Combinations To BA, BSc. Students
Students planning to enroll for BA or B.Sc. courses in Mumbai Colleges now have a reason to smile. Various city colleges are offering interesting subject combination to students interested in learning new subjects along with the usual degree subjects. At Jai Hind College of Arts, Science and Commerce, students taking admission in BA course can also choose a subject of his/her choice like Mathematics, Commerce or Economics. Jai Hind College Principal, Ms. Kirti Nagpal said, βThis is the first time that we are offering BA with mathematics in our college. The intention behind offering the combination is that students interested in arts but good at mathematics can take up both subjects.β

UGC Decided To Ban Physiotherapy Courses Through Distance Learning
UGC has banned physiotherapy course through distance learning mode. As the subject has large modules of practical teaching and cannot be imparted through distance learning mode, so it should be taught face to face. In its notice, UGC put forward that some of the universities are offering certificate, diploma, graduation and post graduation courses in physiotherapy through distance learning mode. Citing a previous order of Delhi High Court, UGC said that the court had held that professional courses should not be imparted through distance mode.

Girl Students Secure 30% Seats In IIM-K 2010-12 Batch
Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K) created a history in the list of elite institutions by admitting 30% girl students in the latest academic batch 2010-12. IIM-K Director, Prof Debashish Chatterjee said, βThis is the highest intake of girl students by any of IIMs. Fifty years ago, this was not possible. Twenty five per cent of girls take CAT exams and finally only 10 per cent make it to IIMs.β IIM-K is also planning to get international accreditation from AMBA of United Kingdom.
