European Studies: A Programme to Understand International Business Functions
With diminishing geographical distances, there can be observed a great number of renowned US & European companies ready to make their entry into Indian business scenario. Hence, it becomes vital for Indian students to have a fair idea about the international forces, which administer the world.
A good number of universities including Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi (www.jnu.ac.in) have introduced management programmes enlightening students on how the business functions across different countries of the world. There is a new entrant in this list of universities, Manipal University. The institution has introduced an integrated MBA programme, with course duration of two years. The course has been designed in such a way that it caters to the needs of prominent business houses of Europe currently running in India & also aims to offer a good breed of human capital to Indian organizations, operating in Europe.
Neeta Inamdar, Head, Manipal Centre for European Studies (www.manipal.edu), Manipal University, Karnataka says, "The course is prepared keeping in view the international market. It's a two-year course where the last semester is dedicated to an internship in Europe."
Talking about the components of the programme, it entails broadly two components. The first component pertains to management, whereas the second component deals with comprehending different aspects of Europe & French and German languages. So broadly speaking, this programme encompasses management subjects, European history and culture, communication policies and multilateral diplomacy etc.
Now coming to the eligibility criteria, a candidate with a Bachelor's degree in any discipline with 55% marks are eligible to seek admission in this programme. Also, the candidates need to qualify the entrance examination for admission in this course.
The programme has a fixed intake of 30 students. The course offers a plethora of opportunities to students to explore & earn up to an annual salary package of Rs. 10 lakhs in any corporate Indian/European organization like Wipro, Nokia, Philips etc.
A Master's degree in European studies "European Private and Public Management" is offered by the University of Rajasthan (www.uniraj.ac.in) also.
