Expect a fee hike at IIM-Calcutta
After Ahmedabad and Bangalore, it seems that Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta is up for a fee hike. IIM Calcutta authorities are likely to increase fee from the next academic session after getting approval from the board of governors.
Early this year in April, IIM-B hiked its annual fees to Rs 17 lakh. On the contrary, IIM Lucknow (IIM-L) slashed its PGP fee to Rs 10.8 lakh (from Rs 12 lakh) for the academic term 2013-2015. About two years ago, IIM Kozhikode also reduced its fees by Rs 30,000. IIM-Ahmedabad is currently charging Rs 18 lakh for its two-year management program.
If sources are to be believed, the PGP course at IIM-C will cost around Rs 14.5-15 lakh after the hike. About four years ago, the B-school increased its fee to Rs 13.5 lakh from Rs 9 lakh.
The reason behind this change has been attributed to due to market inflation and consumer indices. The B-school does not get any financial assistance from the Ministry of Human Resource Development and manages funds from corporate projects and satellite mode courses.
The proposed fee-hike will be brought up either in the December or January board meeting.
