The admission to all postgraduate degree and diploma programmes in management in AICTE approved management institutes will now take place through Common Management Admission Test (CMAT). The first ever CMAT will be conducted online in 2012.

CMAT 2012 will be conducted in 61 cities from February 20 to 28. The CMAT will replace all the national level and state level management entrance exams except CAT.

It is expected to bring relief to students who had to go through multiple entrance exams to get a seat in their desired course.

CMAT 2012 format includes questions on quantitative techniques and data interpretation, logical reasoning, language comprehension and general awareness.

There will be negative marking in the exam and one mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

For now, India's leading B-schools like XLRI, IMT, KJ Somaiya, IMI, TAPMI, and BIMTECH are not going to use CMAT 2012 scores for 2012-14 admissions. It is good o target Tier II and Tier III B-schools though.
