CAT 2014 mock tests are now available on the official website. All those who have registered for the exam can access it after entering their login details on iimcat.ac.in.

CAT 2014 pattern has witnessed several important changes. Therefore it crucial for aspriants to get a feel of the new paper and attempt the mock test. CAT authorities have already released the test day video with necessary instructions.

However, donโ€™t go expecting fresh or new questions. โ€œThe questions are from previous yearsโ€™ CAT exam. No new questions have been presented,โ€ said Tarun Malik, MBA Product Head at Career Launcher.

Question palette or colour coding answers is one of the new things introduced in the test pattern this year. Candidates have a question palette with four colours: Green, Red, White and Violet (refer to above image).

  1. Violet colour means the candidate has answered a question but can choose to come back to and review it. One can also review the question without answering the question.
  2. Green colour will reflect after the candidate has save an the answer.
  3. Red colour means the question has not been answered.
  4. White colour means the candidate doesnโ€™t want to come back and repeat the question.

All experts Shiksha.com spoke to agreed that the Question palette is neat and well organised. Hereโ€™s are two images reflecting questions colours:

Issues

A couple of issues were observed in the mock tests. โ€œThe instructions clearly state that each question will have four options. However, many questions have five options to select from. Many students may find this confusing. This is not expected from a national-level test like CAT,โ€ says Parasharanchari, COO of Endeavour Careers. Take a look at the example below:

Experts also expressed disappointment over โ€˜no previous button functionalityโ€™ in the test. โ€œThe questions can be easily accessed by clicking on the relevant number on the question palette. But a simple function of click on previous button could have made it easier,โ€ adds Parasharanchari.
