Future Innoversity collaborates with RAI to launch PGP Retail Management

Future Innoversity in association with Retailers Association of India (RAI) is planning to launch a 11-month industry-endorsed Post Graduate Programme in Retail Management (PGPRM) in order to meet the real time industry need, reported Economic Times.

Future Innoversity is a segment of Future Group Company and has been providing management programmes in retail and supply chain management, said Muralidhar Rao, CEO, Future Learning, in the ET report. According to Rao, the short duration course will have all the characteristics of an MBA programme and will focus on experiential learning addressing the need for sector-specific, employment ready professionals in the retail industry.

According to a Times of India report, the Global Retail Development Index 2012 places India at the 5th position among the top 30 emerging markets for retail. Moreover, the Indian retail sector is positive following the introduction of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in single and multi-brand retail. Even if the entry level remuneration in this sector is modest, decent remuneration growth is witnessed quickly. By 2022, the industry is expected to see a manpower requirement of more than 18 million. (Read more)

Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO, RAI, told ET that retail industry needs manpower with the attitude to serve and the aptitude to manage people, space, finance and merchandise in order to satisfy customers. He feels that it is high time for young managers to join the retail sector and grow in the business rapidly.

The programme aims at meeting this requirement by providing highly skilled professionals specialized in various aspects of doing retail business in India. Future Innoversity will bank on RAI's membership base of more than 800 retailers for potential employment, work-study projects, curriculum enhancement and on-the-job learning whereas the institute will contribute in terms of experience in rendering retail management courses. Future Innoversity will start offering the PGPRM from September this year at its four campuses in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Bengaluru. The programme will follow a specially tailored curriculum based on the retail industry's need. According to Kurien C.K, Dean Future Innoversity, learning modules are kept up-to-date in collaboration with practitioners and conform to the emerging trends in the industry.
