Hospital Management: A New Field in Health Care Sector
New Delhi, June 16 - Today there is a growing demand for trained hospital managers in the healthcare sector. Hospital management is a comparatively new theory in the management field. Earlier a senior doctor used to perform the role of a hospital manager. But specialists have taken over today. Hospitals or healthcare facilities as we knew them even ten years ago are a thing of past. Almost all the things related to hospital have changed. There are various types of hospitals - ordinary hospitals, specialty hospitals and super specialty hospitals. The categories are formed according to the type of facilities they offer to the patients. Eligible managers are needed for the smooth running of a hospital. Various institutes have come up and several courses and training programs have been developed to produce eligible hospital managers. Hence the Hindustan Times-C fore survey to help students identify the best of the institutes imparting healthcare management education in the country.
While IHMR, Jaipur has topped the list, two institutes each from Delhi - AIIMS (Rank 3), FMS, DU (Rank 5) - and Hyderabad - Apollo Institute of Hospital Administration (Rank 6), ASCI - Hinduja Institute of Healthcare Management (Rank 9) - have made it to the list of top ten. Tata Institute of Social Services, Mumbai, has edged past AIIMS.
