IIM Lucknow Hosts Dr. Kiran Bedi at its Noida campus for a talk
DR KIRAN Bedi, invited to the Noida campus of IIM Lucknow as part of their ongoing Leadership Talk Series, delivered a stirring speech to an audience comprising of a mix of IPMX and GMP students. The talk mostly centred on "The role of corporates in social development", but by interspersing her speech with enriching anecdotes and personal experiences, Dr. Bedi was able to touch upon several other contemporarily relevant issues like the handling of bureaucracy, using the odds to your advantage and innovation.
The former super-cop and Magsaysay award winner from Punjab emphasized on how the practice of giving back to society did not take away from the businesses; instead it helped gear them towards sustainability. As an example, she hoped that corporates opened-up schools to develop talent, and not just harvest talent from existing colleges. ‘Hydrated leadership', she said, was the need of the hour, which would look beyond just dry numerical profits, into inclusive growth of the society.
She also spoke about the importance of ‘constantly sharpening your axe', however high you may be in your organization's hierarchy, by staying in touch with the lowest level of operations. "Walking the beat with my beat-cop sensitized me to the importance of a good day's rest for our force", she recalled, "as most criminals become active after dark".
"She helped me think about developing the humane side of management", said Kamal Ginotra, an IIM Lucknow student towards the end of the speech, pretty much summing-up the mood of all those present, all thoroughly impressed and immensely motivated by the impassioned speech from Dr. Bedi.
