IIM-R to launch e-classes soon!
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Ranchi is looking to make life easier for its students. The institute is likely to kick-off a virtual classroom facility in August to enable its students to 'attend' classes, when they are unable to make a physical appearance at the location.
This option will be a boon for students, who otherwise have to skip their classes due to medical reasons or family issues for which they have to go back home. Now classes will be accessible from their laptops after registering their login credentials.
One of the USPs of these virtual classes will be the lectures being broadcast live along with face-to-face interactions with faculty members.
IIM-R was established two years back and its classrooms are still under construction. The Ranchi University has offered space on its premises in lieu of virtual classes for its students to be conducted by IIM-R faculty. Talking about the development, MJ Xavier, IIM-Ranchi director told Hindustan Times that a projector will be used for the purpose.
As far as the attendance is concerned, students will have to register the same by marking a biometric sensor with their thumb impression. However, the students' knowledge would be assessed by faculty members through their notes on the subject in a separate module. (Read more)
IIM-R plans to offer virtual education to various institutions across the country also to help tackle the acute shortage of quality education in the country by way of e-classes.
IIMs have been taking steps towards upgrading their status on the global arena and building academic excellence. Recently, the governing body of IIM-A has introduced a new performance measurement system assigning equal weightage to both research and teaching in the annual appraisals of its faculty. Due to this, research work will now come into prominence, and not be limited to being a factor considered only for promotions or for confirming teachers on probation. (Read more)
