IIMA Comes up With New Courses

From this year, MDP or Management Development Programmes offered at Indian Institute of Management - Ahmedabad (IIMA) will encompass topics like sports, communication, urban transport and other sectors. Till last year, there were 56 IIMA Management Development Programmes on offer for executives. This year, the institute will add 20 more to its list. Hence, in total, there will now be 76 IIMA Management Development Programmes on offer, nearly double the number of MDPs IIM Ahmedabad used to offer in 2008-09.

Some of new Management Development Programmes introduced by IIMA this year includes the following:

• Professional Management of Sports Organizations
• Urban Transportation
• Lab Management

Apart from this, students will also be taught skills of management by inspiring, working in a flat world, and effective communication across cultures. The institute will also offer Strategic General Management programme for senior public enterprise executives. A majority of these courses will kick-start from June onwards.

According to a senior institute official, these programmes are beneficial and have been a victim of recession. However, with the favorable conditions back in the market, these programmes have re-gained their importance. He also said that programmes were finding huge number of takers since last year. The programmes took time to restart as it was receiving poor response from students.

IIM Ahmedabad has also introduced new global programmes in Bhutan and Dubai.
