IIT fraternity has decided to discontinue the IIT management entrance test i.e. Joint Management Entrance Test and it will be in effect from 2012. This exam was conducted by the IITs for admissions to postgraduate management degree programmes (MBAs). Instead, admissions to these courses will be based on scores in CAT conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).

For the admissions of next session, admissions to postgraduate programmes in six IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Roorkee, Kharagpur, and Madras) will be based on CAT scores. IIT Madras is yet to post the advertisement regarding this decision. But IIT Madras was supposed to conduct a JMET this year. The institute's website already flashes that "only students with a CAT score will be eligible to apply.
