Indian Institute of Management and NID will increase seats this year

<p style="text-align: justify;">IIMs are one of the premier institutes of the country. Most of the students who crack the CAT exam want to take admission in one of the IIM. If they are given the choice of take admission in IIM-A or IIM-B then there first preference will always be IIM-A.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">IIM-A is planning to increase the seats in PGP program this year. Last year the seat were 310 with the implementation of seat increase <img style="border: 3px solid black; margin: 3px 4px; float: right;" src="https://images.shiksha.com/mediadata/images/1271418909php7n34il.jpeg" alt="" width="150" height="110">the number of seats will reach upto 385 in this academic year. The IIM-A is doing this on the instructions of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has given the directives to all the government funded institutes to implement 27% of reservation for OBC students in institutes within this year, because this is the third and the final year for implementing the same.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Manager of global partnerships and corporate affairs at IIMA, Ishita Solanki, explained over the implementation of the directives, "While this figure will include the full implementation of 27% OBC students, it will also consist of 15% of students belonging to SC, 7.9% of students from ST and 3% students belonging to the Physically Challenged category."</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">National Institute of Design is also planning to increase the intake of the students to its graduate programme. Last year the number of the students in the course were 90 and this year the number will be 100 and for the post graduate course there will be 240 seats for the students in place of 220 in last year.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Registrar of NID, Vijaya Deshmukh, said, "We have been increasing the intake of the number of students under the OBC category in the last two years. Five per cent of the students admitted in 2008 were from OBC. This increased to 18% last year and this year it will be 27%." She also added that the number of students applying from the OBC category has also been increasing. She said, "The awareness about the reservation has increased and this is good for us as well, as we get a larger pool of students to select from."</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">This news is really great for students. Now more students have chance to get admission in these two premier institutes of the country. It's not easy to capture a seat in one of the IIMs of the country as the screening test is really tough nut to crack. Presently, in most the IIMs they are almost over with their test and preparing for other rounds and final procedures.
