Indias best B-school not on London paper A-list
For the third year in a row, IIM-A has failed to make the global list of top-100 business schools published by The Financial Times (FT), London. On the contrary, Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, has climbed from 15 to 12 on the list.
IIM-A got an Equis certification in 2008, an accreditation mandatory for participation in the rankings, yet it stayed away from the flagship post-graduate programme (PGP) for FT’s ranking of masters programmes in management.
As the results were released and buzz went around that ISB had moved up, the anxiety was palpable on IIM-A campus. The institute’s director Samir Barua was not available for comment but promptly posted a clarification on the IIM-A website.
“The latest rankings of MBA programmes by FT have caused concern among a few of us. This is a clarification on the matter, based on the information provided by the FT team that decided the rankings. IIM-A’s flagship programme, PGP, did not qualify for inclusion in the list [MBA programme rankings] since it is not a post-experience programme [it does admit candidates without work experience],” he said.
