Until now, the Indian School of Business (ISB) used to hire only post graduates or graduates from four-year degree programmes as research and academic associates. Now, it is planning to allow three-year bachelor degree holders from top colleges in subjects like Mathematics, Economics, and Statistics to join the team.

Academic associates assist faculty in research work and teaching while research associates only assist with research work. ISB recruits these associates through campus placements from some of the most prestigious institutes in India such as IITs and IIMs. Each associate is paid and assigned to work with a faculty member.

These openings are seen as opportunities for those who want to pursue doctorate programmes abroad. Hence, most of the associates take GMAT or GRE tests, apply for PhD and leave by the end of their second year.

By allowing bright students with three-year degrees into the programme, ISB hopes to groom more students for higher studies. Since three-year degree holders will need to complete their post graduation first, ISB is hoping that they would stick to work until the fall of their third year, when they finally become eligible to apply for the doctorate programmes abroad.

The intake of academic and research associates depends on the number of faculties in the institute. Read more
