Joint Admissions 2012 will be conducted by the six new IIMs
Soon after the result declaration of CAT 2011, IIMs will begin with their Joint Admission process in the end of February to April. After the success of the first year, the six new IIMs will be continuing the process for the admissions of academic year 2012. Dr. B S Sahay, Director, IIM Raipur stated that this year in the Joint Admission process, the GD will be replaced with the written ability test.
As of now, the duration for the test is yet not decided, but it is estimated that it will be between 10-15 minutes. Dr. P Rameshan, Director, IIM Rohtak said that, the score will be applicable for all the participating IIMs of the Joint Admission Process.
In past few years, it has been noticed that IIMs are eschewing Group Discussion (GD) from the admission process. Out of the 13 IIMs, only IIM Calcutta has the GD process. Else, other IIMs have the Essay Writing or Written Ability test and Personal Interview rounds.
According to Dr. Sahay, in GD process, it is not possible to give attention to every single candidate's thought process as it gets overpowered by some other candidate. But through essay writing process, it is feasible to check the written communication ability of the candidates. This process also reveals as how they analyze any particular topic within a given time period.
The 6 new IIMs who would be participating in the Joint Admission process are:
- IIM Ranchi
- IIM Rohtak
- IIM Raipur
- IIM Trichy
- IIM Kashipur
- IIM Udaipur
The process will be conducted in the 5 cities:
- Delhi
- Mumbai
- Kolkata
- Chennai
- Bangalore
