<p style="text-align: justify;">Hon'ble Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee delivers Convocation address; 594 students convocated</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">13 April 2010: Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, India's premier B-School, today hosted the event of the year - Convocation 2010 - for its eight programmes - FPM/ EFPM (Doctoral Programme), PGPM, PGP-HR, PGP-IM, NMP, PGPEM (PGP in Energy Management), EMP (Executive Management Programme) and PGP-PPM (PGP Public Policy &amp; Management).</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">The event was graced by the presence of Hon'ble Union Minister of Finance, Shri Pranab Mukherjee who was Chief Guest on the occasion. Shri Atul Kumar Rai, Chairman - Board of Governors, MDI, members Board of Governors, MDI, and Dr B S Sahay, Director, MDI, conferred the degrees. As 4 doctoral students, 337 management students and 253 executive management students convocated, the Chairman charged them to prove themselves, by word and deed, worthy of the degree conferred on them.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">In his welcome address, Shri Rai said that the rank MDI occupies among business schools is not merely an indicator of an aggregate of <img style="border: 3px solid black; margin: 3px 4px; float: right;" src="https://images.shiksha.com/mediadata/images/1271222267phpS1OFSw.jpeg" alt="" width="150" height="110">MDI's performance, it is equally a recognition of deep and constant commitment to bringing about improvements in MDI's organizational practices and contribution to both the private and public sector.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Addressing the Convocation, Shri Pranab Mukherjee said to the students, "While abundant opportunities await the graduating students, as you begin your careers, you should also remember that the country needs your services and you should be on the lookout, how best you can work towards furtherance of the interests of the country. India is well on its way to becoming an economic power to reckon with and young people like you can play an important role in nation building." Mr. Mukherjee expressed happiness to see that "this Institution combines the teaching of management as a discipline, with personality development and inculcation of values in accordance with our rich cultural heritage."</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Dr B S Sahay presented the Annual Report and shared MDI's progress on all the fronts - research, teaching, training and consulting. Dr Sahay said, "I strongly believe that any top business-school in the world is known by the quality of its faculty and students. MDI is very strong in both these areas." He added that research is at the heart of MDI. The institute has brought innovations in its policies to give impetus to high quality research and publication.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Dr. Sahay shared that the placements this year indicate a marked recovery over the recession that was seen last year. In his address to the students Dr Sahay asked them to apply their innovativeness and enterprise and encouraged them to set goals on becoming creators of jobs and assets and contribute in the progress of India so that they can take pride in their roles for the nation's success.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">After post graduate diplomas were awarded to the graduates, &lsquo;Best Student Awards' were given out to highlight the special achievements of the ManDevIans for their scholastic performance which included The Prime Minister's Medal, The Finance Minister's Medal, The ITC Medal, The Department of Personnel &amp; Training (Govt. of India) Medal, The Philips India Gold Medal, to name a few (details of all 25 awards given in the annexure).</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Convocation 2010 ended on a high note with students throwing their graduation caps in the air, and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow students and faculty members.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>About MDI Gurgaon</strong></span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><br />MDI is one of the top B-Schools in India known for academic excellence, high quality research, high-end executive education and consultancy.
