New Pattern of CAT 2011 will Pave Way for More Girls
The new paper pattern of CAT 2011 and the subsequent increase in the number of IIMs will provide extra opportunities to female candidates. Most of the girls are from non-science backgrounds, and the change in the exam pattern will ease their entry into management institutes.
The number of registrations for CAT 2011 has increased significantly, and the number of female candidates appearing for CAT has also gone up. Soumitro Sen, Managing Director of the test-conducting agency, Prometric said that, out of the 2.05 lakh, 73% are males and 27% are females.
As per the female candidates, it is one of the biggest opportunities for them to outwit boys. They said that both IIMs and MBA have always been perceived to be dominated by engineers and males. The significant increase in the number of IIMs has given them a bigger chance to apply to these colleges.
Janaki Raman Moorthy, Convener, CAT 2011 said that by dividing the paper into two sections, we'll get an idea about the performance of students as who are good in both English and Maths. However, the IIMs acclaimed that the priority will be given to the better candidates instead paying attention to the number of women students.
